The support for climate education is an initiative under the VELUX Foundations’ climate project ‘70 by 30’. With an anniversary grant totalling DKK 320 million, VILLUM FONDEN, VELUX FONDEN and the KR Foundation support a number of joined-up climate initiatives involving knowledge dissemination, broad popular engagement and education.

Greenhouse effect, tipping points, climate justice. There are many different concepts to grapple with, and huge climate challenges. Good climate education is in demand among children, young people and teachers alike.

As part of the VELUX Foundations’ climate project ‘70 by 30’, VILLUM FONDEN is now making a new pool of grants available to boost climate education. The pool is intended to support a development that is already underway in many places:

“The goal is to prepare children and young people for the future and engage them in helping to find solutions to climate change. With the new grants, we want to promote good and motivating climate education in primary and secondary education – not only in the sciences but across the subjects,” says head of programme Agi Csonka from VILLUM FONDEN’s grant area for children, young people and science.

Act now across subjects

The pool of grants totals DKK 30 million and is intended to support new interdisciplinary climate education courses including elements from the sciences, social science and humanities. The courses should aim to:

  • Increase children and young people’s knowledge, commitment and ability to act in the area of climate change
  • Increase children and young people’s understanding of the interplay between nature, technology and people
  • Engage children and young people in specific solutions
  • Boost teachers’ skills

The application deadline is 12:00 on 1 November 2021, and virtual information meetings will be held for potential applicants.
